Mike:  Try to find the old thorium-containing lantern mantles.
I haven't tried to puchase them lately, but I hear that 
Coleman and some other mfgrs. have eliminated the thorium.
1/4 mantle folded over and taped to the side of the meter
housing gives you a great check source!
|TAB|We have had several dozen affixed in this way for a few
years- just make sure you use heavy duty cloth or other fabric
tape for longevity.  We update the open-window reading on
calibration for each annually (noted on calibration sticker).
