SF meeting special computer session

After finally getting thru my pile of mail and stuff I
can do a short summary of the special session on computer
applications.

First, Hector and I thank those who provided feedback, and
overall everyone thought the session worthwhile. I
apologize to those who couldn't attend due to a
#&*! ANSI writing session; I will try and schedule
around these things next time. YES - we will try and
have another session next year. With more prep time
I hope to have more people show their 'wares.

1. Mohammed Zaidi from DOE is trying to find if there
is a repository for AAPM software. I will post info
as it becomes available. (Didn't there used to be
a BBS in Kansas City about 10 yrs ago with med
stuff?? I can't recall the name now.)

2. I had a few disks and handouts for a small MDA
program. I will upload this to RADSAFE soon - I
have to convert the doc from IBM to WPerfect.

3. A very good comment was made about having vendor
catalogs on-line, disk, or CD. Amersham and NEN were
specifically mentioned as two people could use the
most. Some inventory systems use vendor catalog
numbers and data provided in the catalogs as part
of their records. If you'd like to see this, let
your vendor(s) know!

4. Dale Boyce dialed into his inventory system in
Chicago and showed how it worked.

5. Phil Connolly had his laptop inventory system
for show. Both Dale and Phill had complete programs
that I can't summarize here.

6. Griff Griffith demo'd some stuff from IAEA that
look very nice. One code calculates and graphs X-ray
spectra for an X-ray tube. Another has computer-based
training for rad safety. Griff is checking with IAEA
to see if we can post this and more to RADSAFE. More
info to come.

7. Wade Patterson has an EXCEL spread sheet for doing
some math routines. I'm having trouble reading his
disk but I'll upload it ASAP.

8. Hector showed some neat things on the Internet and
WWW connections.

9. We had about 20 people total and some good discussion
on what the codes did, how they were programmed, efforts
involved, etc.

Many thanks to those who brought laptops and software
to show and to those who could attend. See you next
year!

Jeff
