Except that, without background radiation, life would likely cease. Then
again maybe that the definition of heaven!? :)

Amen. Of course, you'll have to start with BEIR. If we tell kindergarden
classes what we've been telling the politicians, they will come to the same
rational conclusion: Any radiation is dangerous, and any effort to reduce
exposure, to the tune of $100s of Billions to reduce radiation at less
than 1% of natural background, or even the variation in natural background,
is justified. We can give millions of people 10s and 100s of rem for medical
treatments, and individuals to misadministrations, with no adverse
consequences, but we can't expose a hypothetical person to a few 10s of mrem
without heroic, costly, intervention.
