smoke detector overkill
Here we are becoming a victim of our "even the smallest amount or IONIZING ra
diation is dangerous" attitude again. Linear nonthreshold can justify just abo
ut anything if you mind spending the money.
However thisisn't good radiation protection. Someone mentioned that what I
thought was a very sensible comment about appling ALARA (social and economic
factors taken into account) to thissmoke detector problem.
I forget how many smoke detectors we are talking about but I suggest you
follow the Canadian regs. for normal disposal in garbage as long as it meets
the regs. in US.
