I California there is a requirement for the consulting physicist to measure 
exposures for common techniques and routine fluoro output (though I disagree 
with the State definition of routine).

At least one of my clients posts the results of these measurements on each 
machine (the measurements are machine specific).

So - while the tech can't always say "The exposure was xxxxx" he/she CAN say 
"The exposure was about xxxx".

The number of techniques measured was sufficient to cover a wide range.

Personally I always found it a pleasure to do the extra work for an 
organization that cared enough to be this thorough!
