Re: nuclear accident, medical issues

One of my nuclear engineering professors assigned his grad
students an interesting project shortly after Chernobyl.
Their task was to design a method to make a Chernobyl type
plant as safe as a similar American design and to make the
American plant as dangerous as a Chernobyl type. This was
to be accomplished without completely tearing either plant
apart. The conclusion of the project was that while they
could make the Chernobyl plant safe, because of the inherent
safety factors designed into the plant they could not make
the American plant as dangerous as the Chernobyl type.
