nuclear accident, medical issues

While all facilities have arrangements for treatment of individuals with
radiological complications, the essense of U.S. reactor designs is that
there cannot be an event of the Chernobyl type, i.e., one involving acute
radiation exposures to a segment of the population large enough to
necessitate immediate medical treatment (excluding psychological issues).

Or to state it another way, the largest projected public exposures are only
of long term somatic and genetic concern.

Does anyone have or know of anything contrary to this?

There might be models from DoD projecting such numbers from the use of
tactical nuclear weapons that might be transferable to their question.
