Re: training -Reply

In Canada, the Atomic Energy Control Board has just issued a consultative
document called "C-123 Radioisotope Release Concentrations". This
document is out for public comment, and will be made into a regulatory
document in due course, unless it is modified or cancelled entirely.

Here are some examples of limits, showing the current limits and the new
(proposed) limits:

				Releases to:

Atmosphere (A), in Bq per cubic metre
Liquid (L), in Bq per Litre
Solid (S), in Bq per Kilogram
(Note that 37000 Bq is 1 microcurie).

Isotope	Old Limits New Limits
	  A	L	S A	L S

C-14	3700	37000	3700000 5	9 200
H-3	37000	370000	37000000 2000	300000 80000
I-125	37	370	37000 0.04	200 2
I-131	37	370	37000 0.03	200 1
P-32	370	3700	370000 0.8	1 30
S-35	370	3700	370000 4	800 200
Tc99m 3700	37000	3700000 1000	40000000 40000

This is just a small (representative) sample of the changes proposed.

I'm looking for comments (printable!), suggestions on how to improve this
document and also for information on the limits in the USA, currently,
together with any impending or proposed changes. As you will note, the
proposed new Canadian limits are much, much more restrictive than the
current ones.

Thanks in advance,
