I am not quoting your whole response here since it is lengthy and since 
everyone here has it.

Thanks for you reasoned reply - it IS the kind of reply/exchanged I had 
hoped to see and feel is useful.

One point I'd like to clarify - ALL of my comments regarding the exam are 
directed to part II - NOT part I - I have never found a particular problem 
with part I.

With regard to the part I type question I agree with almost everything said 
here and Les's formulation of the HVL problem into a part I question EXCEPT 
I am SURE the answer to Les's formulation is "none of the above"!!!  BUT 
since he acknowledged it was hastly formulated - I'd not carry that any 
further.

I had assumed he meant putting it into a part II question and I have seen 
many part II questions where specific field acquired knowledged is essential 
AND where is real practice the problem would have been approached WITH 
available reference materials.
