No, Cal Rad and US Ecology only become involved in the land transfer issue
(other than encouraging letter writing) as requested by the Department of
Health Services (DHS) or the Department of Interior (DOI). Quite rightly,
they believe that this is a matter that only California and DOI can work out
and that uninvited involvement of others is counter-productive. As you may
know, several environmental groups, such as Greenpeace and the Committee to
Bridge the Gap, are trying to force a seat at the table. Given the success
Senator boxer has had in doing this, it is not surprising that others are
trying as well.
