Following this thread and seeing possible explainations for the false beta 
response such as low energy x-rays or a partially shielded dosimeter ......

I can't help but muse .... 

Gee - wouldn't have been nice if the dosimeter was FILM?  ALL of these 
circumstances would have been CLEARLY discernable in the image as well as 
any motion (or non motion) characteristics of the exposure.

Sometimes I wonder just how useful some progress is!
