BOMAB phantoms

Based on the message below there seems to have been a lot of interest and a
variation of responses to this inquiry. I have been on travel and would like
to provide the following information:

1. As Bob Loesch pointed out:
Pete Olsen (PNL), Tim Lynch (PNL), and Debbie Kruchten (LLNL)are on the HPS
Standards Committee for drafting an ANSI standard describing the BOMAB.
These people are good resources.,

2. LLNL constructs a seamless BOMAB phantom with recessed end caps. This
represents a unique capability that is not offered in the commercial market
nor is it made by any other laboratories, and with the reduction in
commercial sources actively providing BOMABS, we have over the past two
years, made BOMABs available through the University of Cincinnati. We now
have a more direct mechanism for procurement of a seamless BOMAB and you can
obtain them directly from LLNL.,

3. Some commercial companies and universities (e.g., University of
Cincinnati-Henry Spitz) have used the LLNL BOMAB phantoms, and if you want
them filled with traceable material, then it may be easier to issue one
requisition
through the company or university providing the radionuclide loading and let
them procure the BOMAB.,

4. If you would like the phantom loaded with isotopes contained within
Griffith Muscle simulant (see ICRU #44)or other Griffith/LLNL material, then
LLNL or University of Cincinnati can provide this service.,

5. PNL has its own simulant materials and can also help with solid material
loadings.,

6. There are probably some other commercial sources, one of which is in
Canada (Gary Krammer can provide the source of these phantoms). The US
sources have been rather limited in recent years and have limited
experience. Thus good specification with appropriate tolerances (which is
what the ANSI BOMAB Committee is attempting to define) is a must.,

I offer this information in the hopes that it will assist all of those who
have seen a variety of responses and may at this point be totally confused.
