TRU sources/material recycling
Hi Radsafers:
Here's a followup to a previous discussion. This message
pertains to a question originally posted by Susan McElrath
concerning disposal options for TRU sources. The Conference of
Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD) has published lists
of parties looking for radioactive materials to recycle/reuse.
An excerpt from a recent list follows:
"Manufacturers are showing increasing interest in obtaining
radioactive materials for refurbishing or recycling, particularly
the items listed below... Please provide, by fax, brief
identifications of unwanted devices or materials with the name
and telephone number of a contact person that (Terry Devine) may
pass on to reputable recycling firms. Interest includes (but is
not limited to) the following:
H-3 >1 Ci Co-60 >1 Ci
Sr-90 >1 Ci Cs-137 >1 Ci, 1-50 mCi
Ra-226>10 mg Th nat refined
Cf-252 Th metal alloy
Am-241>1 Ci sources Am-241 n sources
Am-241 foil removed from smoke detectors
Others not listed here "
Terry Devine was consulted before this message was posted and
agreed to sharing the information. He can be contacted at the
CRCPD by telephone: (502)227-4543, by fax:(502)223-7026.
