SI Units

Radsafers: You might be interested in a Federal Register Notice
announcing an NRC request for comment on "metrication."
Supposedly, the NRC issued this request (I don't have the actual
FR Notice, only a summary) on September 27, 1995 regarding the
existing policy of only encouraging use of metric units, but not
requiring them. The NRC did require in its' 1992 policy that all
event reporting and emergency response communications must remain
in English units. Many industry groups support a dual unit
policy for phasing in. Many in the health physics community
preferred remaining in English units because of the existing
inventory of instruments, records, procedures, training, etc.

Comments are due to the NRC by December 11, 1995. Perhaps it
would be most meaningful if appropriate organizations such as the
     HPS, sent carefully constructed comments.
