The Cherenkov radiation appears in the H-3 region.  It appears as low energy
radiation because there are few photons per "event".  To see the effect,     
dissolve P-32 in water and count this solution; lacking scintillant, all you
will see is the Cherenkov.  According to an LSC short course that I recently
attended at Packard, Cherenkov counting is about 53% efficient.
