Re: Neutrons and Ice Vests
Thanks to all who responded to this question. I have received a lot of
valuable information and suggestions for consideration. The responses
are about 50/50 for wearing the neutron dosimeter under the vest
versus outside the vest.
We have conducted neutron spectral analysis at all four of our nuclear
reactors, all PWRs. The spectrum is predominantly consistent with the
Deuterium moderated Cf-252 spectrum. Our correction factors are based
on this energy and were developed with dosimeters placed on a phantom
without any other shielding. Our normal location when a worker is
wearing only 1 set of PCs can be either inside or outside the
clothing. The filtration is not that significant. The filtration
provided by an ice vest would be greater. I'll be conducting a small
test having a few workers wear 2 dosimeters, one underneath and one
outside and see if there is any statistical difference. I'll report
back to those who have requested the results if such a test were
conducted.
Thanks again to all who replied.
