        COORDINATION AND INFORMATION CENTER

The mission of the Coordination and Information Center is to:

Collect and consolidate, for long term preservation, historical documents,
records and data dealing ith offsite radioactive fallout from U.S. testing of
nuclear devices.
Provide resources and methods for identification and retrieval of specific
documents based on subject and content.
Allow access to the collected documents by interested parties, including
the general public.

The Coordination and Information Center contains only unclassified documents.
The scope of the collection includes:

Data and documentation on the detection and measurement of radioactive
fallout and the related factors resulting from nuclear device test activities
at the Nevada Test Site, the TRINITY Event, the Pacific Proving Grounds, and
other on-continent test locations.
Policy documents dealing with procedures and conduct of tests and public
safety considerations and actions.
Published and primary sources describing the development and
state-of-knowledge of the health effects of radiation.
Documents dealing with public information as disseminated through such
media as pamphlets, news releases and news publications.
Related studies and reports produced by the scientific and technical
field.

The Coordination and Information Center is open for visitors from 7:30 A.M. to
4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Request for services can be made to the
Coordination and Information Center at (702) 295-0731.

The Nevada Operations Office of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) opened the
Coordination and Information Center (CIC) July 17, 1981 to collect and make
available all historical documents, records and data dealing with radioactive
fallout from all U.S. testing of nuclear devices. The center is operated
by Reynolds Electrical & Engineering Co., Inc. for DOE.

The center's public reading room contains published materials and printed
indexes to the collection. The reading room materials were chosen for their
nontechnical style. Many are free while others may be duplicated at a nominal
fee. The indexes are cataloged by title. author, government report number and
originating and contributing agencies. Information is also available from the
Department of Energy's Office of Technical Information at the Oak Ridge
Operations Office through the OPENNET database. Patrons may request an online
search through the CIC system by contacting CIC personnel.

Mail Requests

Mail requests should be addressed to the Reynolds Electrical & Engineering
Co., Inc., Coordination and Information Center, P.O. Box 98521, Las Vegas, NV
