Follow-up: "Hot Playground?"
I profoundly appreciate the responses from RADSAFERs to my recent
posting which I titled, "Hot Playground?" It speaks well of the
scientific community that those occupying high-level positions in
several countries created the time to so comprehensively resond to
the concerns of a lay person. I'm currently preparing e-mail
responses to those who communicated with me via e-mail or posted
messages.
I'll explain my interest in radioactivity readings taken at a school
complex in the vicinity of Toronto, Canada. A series of tests were
conducted in 1992 and 1993; however, senior school board
administrators had issued an order that neither teachers nor members
of the public were to be given access to the test results. (The tests
were publicly funded and the resulting report was, of course,
intended for public consumption.) The element of secrecy left the
clear impression that there were health hazards that were not being
disclosed. The much-appreciated responses from RADSAFERs have
reflected a measure of objectivity that has been extremely helpful.
Once again, many thanks for the informed and thorough replies. I'll
respond via e-mail as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Lori Cartmell
