Re: FIDDLER

The correct spelling is FIDLER, the acronym for Field Instrument for the
Detection of Low Energy Radiation. It is a gamma scintillation probe,
originally designed to be used by "Broken Arrow" teams, with an NaI(Tl)
crystal of ~5"x0.063", and a five-inch PMT. I recommend Bicron's Model G5,
which is available with either Be or Al windows, handles for carrying in
either vertical or horizontal positions, and in a ruggedized version. The
latter is definitely the way to go if you're doing serious field work, e.g.,
DOE remedial actions. Prices range from ~US$3500-5500. You can call them at
800-472-5656.
