bubble dosimeters

We have used both the Caulk River type (with
the miniscus readout) as well as the Aptfel
monitor which is based on the bubble dosimeter.
A major advantage is that one can do measurements
of small cross-section beams that virtually cannot
be done any other way.

The bubble dosimeters have the advantage of sensitivity
and good energy response, but have limited dynamic range
(for a given dosimeter), have limited shelf life, and are
somewhat expensive.

The Navy funded a lot of testing. DoE seems to be more
into track-etch.

A little risk adds spice to life.
