Re: U-238 concentrations in soil
As far as I know, the only universal soil concentration limit is that for
Ra226: 5 pCi/gm in the top six inches, 15 pCi/gm in each successive 6 inch
layer below that (this is from 40CFR, sorry but I don't have the
PartSubpartParagraph).The concern is to control the Rn222 source term. The
limits for all other radionuclides, NORM or not, must be decided
("negotiated" may be a better word) on a site specific basis. I haven't
worked in the environmental field in many years, so this information may be
out-of-date. Should that be the case, I have no doubt that I'll be corrected
ASAP.
