I would probably try spraying on some cleaner similar to NEN's Count Off (some-
thing that creates a foam) and then use sandpaper to remove the contamination.

This little bit of advice will do no good for your present situation...
One of our labs has used self-adhesive vinyl shelf/wall paper to attach to
their hood ledges, which can be easily peeled off in the event of contamination.
