UV light and quench gas effects in GM tubes



UV photons will contribute to avalanche effects.  See Knoll, pg 200 in the 
2nd edition for a complete explanation.  

The increasing count effects, I would assume, are a result of slow loss of 
quench gas.  

As for early tubes being clear glass, I would be interested in dead time 
and efficiency for these tubes, I'd bet they were pretty unimpressive.
