GM Response to UV

For what it's worth, we at UCI cannot use our Ludlum GMs to monitor laminar
flow biological hoods that are kept sterile by (relatively intense) UV
light. The meter pegs. When we use a closed-end GM tube the problem goes
away (as does sensitivity to beta radiation, alas). The tubes, of course,
are normal, non-damaged, and work fine when removed from the UV source.
It's definitely a response to the UV light as such.
