We used a "rule of thumb" to determine a dose rate from contamination 
measurements and then determined a dose to the skin during emergency 
exercises ... Of course it's based on the energy spectra and probe 
specifications,,, but, it can and is done all the time. We're not 
looking at magnitudes of error here. Dave, you're absolutely correct 
in what you wrote about. Don't be intimidated by anyone.
