Re: cpm conversion to mrem/hr
Dear Radsafers:
Before Melissa declares this off-topic, my $0.02 worth:
* For an end or side window GM tube, I understand that the calibration
curves are relatively flat from gamma energies between 50 keV to (upper
limit?) a few MeV. In this case, there is a simple Calibration Constant
that converts counts to dose units. For our Eberline ESP-2, using a HP-270
GM probe, this is specified during calibration, +-10%.
* For pancake GM tubes, the energy response is more peaked at intermediate
energies, and so one would have to be more careful, but could still make
"Rule of Thumb" estimates.
* For the benefit of any parochialists out there, please note that A U S T
R A L I A does not equal A U S T R I A, as many seem to think.
Australians are not sarcastic, nor do we use it in scientic communications.
(Is that the same as a Cretan saying all Cretans are liars??)
