December Meeting of Arizona Chapter of HPS

Ladies and Gentlemen:

        The December meeting of the AZ-HPS will be held at the Radisson 
Airport Hotel in Phoenix on December 10th, 1996.

        The guest dinner speaker is the President-Elect of the national HPS,
Otto Raabe, Ph.D., from the University of California, Davis.  His talk is
entitled "Three-Dimensional Models of Radiation Risk."  He will discuss the
current debate about the applicability of the LNT hypothesis to chronic,
low-level exposure.  His three-dimensional models, based on animal and human
data for internally deposited alpha- and beta-emitting nuclides, will show
that there is an effective threshold for protracted exposure to ionizing
radiation leading to the conclusion that exposure to low-levels of
protracted ionizing radiation is "safer" than we have thought in the past
based on the LNT hypothesis.
 
        Cost for paid-up, current AZ-HPS members is $20.00; non-members
$25.00; Students $15.00.  You need only indicate your intention to attend to
any of the individuals specified below; you may pay for your meal "at the
door" to the treasurer on , 10 December 96.  Also, spouses, at the
same prices, are welcome.  The meal cost does not include the cost of
the "cash" bar which will be available.
