Job Announcement



The University of California, Santa Barbara, has an opening for a
Health Physicist (Job # 96-11-014 BO).
Primary Duties: Assists the RSO in managing the  radioactive material,
radiation-producing machine and non-ionizing radiation program.
Duties include conducting audits and surveys of radioisotope labs,
radiation-producing machines and laser facilities. Assists in conducting
radiation and laser safety classes. Performs sampling/analysis of
radioactive waste. Manages the personnel dosimetry program, maintains
dosimetry records, and conducts bioassays. Expected to assist in other
areas of Radiation Safety as needed and other EH&S staff in overlapping
needs.
Required skills and knowledge: Bachelor's degree in a related scientific
discipline, working knowledge of common computer applications (e.g.,
word processing, spreadsheets). Minimum of two years full-time experience
in a radiation safety program, preferably under a broad-scope license.
Experience to include conducting laser audits, knowledge of laser safety
standards. Working knowledge of applicable and state regulations.
Excellent ability to communciate effectively through oral presentations
and written reports. Candidate must be willing to work with and respond
toemergencies involving radioactive materials adn be medically qualified
to wear a respirator. Valid drivers license required.
Salary: $ 40,300-$45,000 per year (hiring range)
$ 40,300- $ 60,400 per year (full range).
