Notice of Proposed Rulemaking: 10CFR835

Federal Register Notice:

On 23 December 1996, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Notice of
Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register (61 FR 67600), proposing to
amend its primary standards for occupational radiation protection, 10 CFR
part 835, “Occupational Radiation Protection.” The proposed rule amendment
is the culmination of a systematic analysis to identify the elements of a
comprehensive radiation protection program and determine those elements of
such a program that should be codified. In the proposed amendment, DOE has
proposed standards for sealed radioactive source accountability, posting of
radiological hazards and labeling of radioactive materials, and
accreditation of radiobioassay programs. DOE has also proposed a number of
clarifications and enhancements to the existing requirements of 10 CFR 835.

DOE is soliciting both oral and written comments on the proposed amendment.
Oral comments will be accepted at two public hearings. Comments may also
be submitted electronically on the internet at the following address -
http://tis-nt.eh.doe.gov/wpphm/835/835.htm. Written and electronic
comments should be submitted on or before February 21, 1997 to ensure
consideration by DOE. See the Federal Register Notice for further details
on the content of the proposed amendment and procedures for submission of
comments.
