2. Northeast Utility owns a large portion of the Yankee Electric
System. What liability or control has NE given up, accepted, etc. NE
already has its own problems with Millstone?
Northeast Utilities (NU) does own about 40% of Yankee Atomic, but Yankee Atomic
is a service company which does NOT own capital facilities such as the Maine
Yankee power plant. NU does have about a 10% ownership of the Maine Yankee
power plant so NU only has a minority owner involvement in the decision to hire
Entergy to run the Maine Yankee plant. NU does have majority ownership of
Seabrook which is one of the best performing plants in the country. NU does
not anticipate having to hire an outside organization to run Seabrook despite
it's problems at Millstone. At Millstone NU has hired executives from other
utilities on a temporary basis to help correct management problems, but NU will
be fully managing Millstone when things are in order.
