Subject:       Dose needed to sterilize

I have a researcher who will be using a gamma irradiator to
sterilize glass, plastic and metal instruments. They are to be
used in cell culture work after they are sterilized.

What dose is needed to achieve this level of sterilization?

Probably in the range of 1 or 2 megarad, if viruses are also a 
concern.  Be cautious about the plastic, however.  At those 
dosages it may become very brittle.
