     The State of Tennessee, like several others, regulates dental x-ray 
     equipment.  Inspection and performance evaluation is required on 
     installation, every 4 years thereafter, and after any service that 
     might alter performance.  Inspections are performed by State personnel 
     or by qualified radiological physicists registered with the State.  An 
     annual registration fee is assessed to each machine, with a 
     significant reduction if inspection is performed by a registered 
     physicist rather than State personnel.  No dose limits are prescribed 
     for any procedures in Tennessee.
