POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

LABORATORY SAFETY SPECIALIST 

New unclassified staff position in the Department of Environment, Health &
Safety,
University of Kansas - Lawrence Campus.  Minimum starting salary is
$25,000.  This position
has the general responsibility of providing assistance to the EHS Director
and the EHS
Radiation Safety Officer in carrying out the EHS Department's campus-wide
laboratory safety
management efforts.  50% of this position's duties will be in radiation
protection-laboratory
safety and 50% will be addressing other laboratory safety issues related to
chemical hygiene
and biosafety.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field, or equivalent
work experience. 
Experience with using IBM compatible computers.  Valid driver's license. 
Excellent oral and
written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety.  Work
experience in a
laboratory environment, especially in dealing with radioactive, biological
and/or chemical
hygiene/safety issues.  Experience in using Windows based software. 
Familiarity with
applicable Federal and State Regulations.  Familiarity with radiation,
chemical and biological
monitoring instrumentation and sampling techniques.
