"Jitterbox" ELF Magnetic Field Shielding
Radsafers,
Have any of you folks used or seen demonstrated a "Jitterbox", which is an
ELF magnetic field shielding device made specifically for VDTs. It's
manufactured by an outfit in California called Field Management Services.
They claim the boxes are ". . . made of an alloy processed for high
magnetic permeability - - - without using expensive exotic materials (cheap
mu-metal?)." I'd very much appreciate any observations/evaluations as to
the effectiveness of the "Jitterbox" in attenuating H-field caused
perturbations in VDTs.
Additionally, can any of you recommend an affordable Super VGA type monitor
that comes "out of the box" with the shadowmask and other ELF susceptible
components shielded with mu-metal. I've seen some examples that are
manufactured for the DOD, but at prohibitively high prices.
BTW - this is in reference to an AC magnetic field problem, not the DC
stuff I queried about a number of weeks ago. Manual degaussing of the
monitor will not work in this case. I recommended re-orientation of the
monitor but the folks I'm dealing with refuse to (the monitor is situated
in ~ 60 milligauss field directly adjacent to a breaker box that contains
more than thirty occupied breakers). They're actually petitioning the
building supervisor to MOVE THE BREAKER BOX!!!
