Baltimore-Washington HPS Chapter Meeting Announcement
If you happen to be in the Baltimore-Washington area on April 1, 1997,
(the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements Annual
Meeting is April 2-3, 1997) you are welcomed to attend the next meeting
of the Baltimore-Washington Chapter of the Health Physics Society. This
meeting is being sponsored by the Affiliate Members of our Chapter.
The Chapter's Affiliates will be demonstrating their products during the
social hour. Visit their booths and drop off a business card to win one
of several door prizes. This is an annual event and is one of the most
popular events sponsored by our Chapter.

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

Speaker: Otto Raabe, Ph.D., CHP
President-Elect, Health Physics Society
Institute of Toxicology and Environmental Health
University of California, Davis
Subject: Three-Dimensional Models of Radiation Risk
Dr. Raabe will present information relating to the current
debate about the linearity of radiation dose-response.
Using three-dimensional models, the reason for an effective
threshold for protracted exposure to ionizing radiation
will be discussed. These relationships will be illustrated
using animal and human data for internally deposited
radionuclides for both alpha and beta emitters.

Reservations: Call the Chapter telephone, (301) 949-4178 and leave your
name and telephone number. Please speak slowly and distinctly so that we
can type the reservation list from the recording. Reservation cut-off is
noon Monday, March 31. Cancellations must be received at least 24 hours
prior to the dinner or you may be required to pay for the meal. Indicate
if you need directions to USUHS.
Dr. Otto Raabe is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Veterinary
Molecular Biosciences and the Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Raabe is author
or co-author of over two hundred scientific articles, and is the editor
of the 1994 Health Physics Society's summer school textbook, Internal
Radiation Dosimetry.
