Position Announcement



     The following position is announced:
     
     Description:  The Duke University and Medical Center Occupational and 
     Environmental Safety Office has a position open for Director of the 
     Radiation Safety Division/Radiation Safety Officer.  An academic 
     appointment will be considered for qualified candidates.  The 
     Director/RSO is responsible for managing all aspects of the 
     institution's Radiation Safety Program for 270 authorized users within 
     a university, medical center, and 1000 bed hospital complex operating 
     under two broad scope radioactive materials licenses.  Duties include 
     administration of the personnel, facilities, equipment, and budget 
     that are necessary to conduct the Radiation Safety Program.
     
     Qualifications:  A thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, 
     and regulations of state and federal agencies applicable to both 
     radiation-producing devices and radioactive materials is essential.  
     The position requires an advanced degree in health physics or related 
     field and five years of progressive experience in radiation safety or 
     health physics in a medical and research institution.  Board 
     certification , or eligibility, in comprehensive practices of Health 
     Physics required within one year of employment.  Must possess 
     excellent interpersonal, planning, supervisory, and communication 
     skills and must be able to work successfully with faculty members, the 
     Radiation Safety Committees, administrators, and regulatory agencies.
