I second this comment. Tom Goff, a new member to this forum, did a
similar study a few years back while working at FPL. The object of
the study was to determine the attenuation and transmission
characteristics of different materials worn within the power plant
when exposed to SDE. The study involved TLD measurements under
various materials, such as PCs (protective clothing), respirator face
mask, cotton gloves, rubber gloves, different thicknesses, whirl pak
bags, etc. The study resulted in correction factors that could be
applied to an individual's TLD in the event the dosimeter was worn
either above or below the various materials. If the individual wore
two rubber gloves for instance, there was no increased correction
factor applied to the ring TLD, since there was in fact, no
transmission of beta dose through the two gloves, and a highly
conservative correction factor was not used, which was also
needlessly applied to the gamma dose as well.
This was presented to the NRC and was well received.
So, I echo Ron's suggestion. Just do a simple test and document ...
