Radium in 5 cc vials

Radsafers:

I have a question.  We found an 8 in x 8 in x 4 in high lead box, with a grid
inside (apparently) for holding small vials (approximately 100 of them).  We
also found some of the vials.  They are about 5 ml, glass (I think....I don't
think they were plastic), corked vials containing radium.  Does anyone know
what these might have been used for?
