Re: IATA regs
Patrick and others,
Another colleague pointed out an error in my last posting that changes the
meaning of that section. I omitted some of the text from section 10.5.9.2 and
in that ommission I also left out an important word "except". The following is
the complete text from that section.
10.5.9.2 Excepted packages are not subject to the provisions relating to
categorisation of packages, packing, labeling, marking and other shipper's
responsibilities, operator's responsibilities and packaging nomenclature,
marking, requirements and tests except for the provisions relating to marking of
gross weight, documentation completion, inspection and decontamination
requirements, the reporting of dangerous goods accidents, incidents and other
occurrences, general packaging requirements and any other provisions
specifically retained in this Section.

Subject: IATA regs

We are recieving some limited quantity radioactive materials from
another institution in the near future. We are supplying the
styrofoam inserts as well as the outer boxes. DOT regs do not
requiere any package certifications for "strong tight containers".
The inistitution that is sending us the materials wants to know if
the boxes we are sending them conform to IATA regs.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you in advance for your help.
