Re: Day/Night background change?

In regards to the snow/ice radon progeny. Yankee Rowe, which is situated in
a steep valley along the Deerfield River in western Massachusetts has
experienced this problem. Workers using hand rails to prevent slipping on
the ice, would return to the frisking station with upwards of 10,000 dpm on
their hands. This was due to the hand sliding along the hand rail, melting
some of the ice and the hands becoming wet with the contaminated water.

A number of the New England Nuclear plants also experience clothing
contamination due to static charge attraction of the radon progengy. This is
most commonly seen with polyester blends, but also occurs on plastic hard
hats and sometimes with cotton clothing if the met conditions are favorable.
The source at times can be from outdoor sources and also from indoor
eminations from concrete where ventillation is limited.
