Tritium from Chernobyl -Reply



Of course tritium was released in the Chernobyl accident.  It is produced at the
rate of about 1 tritium atom per 10,000 fissions so the core inventory is easy to
estimate.  I do not doubt that a major portion of  that inventory was released. 
Tritium, of course, produces relatively little dose in comparison to the other fission
products and it is relatively difficult to detect as contamination.  Consequently,
tritium was of little significance and so is rarely mentioned.
