                   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

In general:
Under the supervision of the Head of the Industrial Applications and Chemistry
Section, to assist and participate in the planning and implementation of
programmes in the field of non-destructive testing (NDT) applications in
industry. 

In particular: 

     - To organize consultants' meetings as well as other meetings and training
     programmes to promote the exchange of information in this field; 

     - To be responsible for publications resulting from such meetings; 

     - To provide technical advice in the field of expertise to other
Divisions of the Agency, especially in relation to the Agency's technical
co-operation projects in Member States; 

     - To evaluate and disseminate scientific information and remain
up-to-date with developments in the relevant areas of specialization; 

     - To assess and develop new NDT activities of relevance to Member States. 

NOTE: This is a temporary assignment and the duration of appointment will be
subject to the availability of funds. 


                           QUALIFICATIONS 


Essential: University degree, or equivalent, in engineering or industrial or
mechanical engineering with at least six years' relevant technical
experience in industrial radiography certified at level 3. 
Desirable: Experience in other NDT techniques including field experience
in quality assurance. 
Languages: Fluency in English, French, Russian or Spanish essential.
Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English desirable. 
Remuneration is quoted in annual amounts in Austrian shillings and is
deemed to be exempt from National Income Tax. It is composed of Net Base
Salary plus local Post Adjustment and amounts, after deduction of the
contribution to the United Nations
Joint Staff Pension Fund, to a total of: 
       
       Single   AS 636,815.- (including a net base salary of US$ 40,419.-)
       Dependency   AS 687,607. (including a net base salary of US$ 43,326.-)

     Applicants should be aware that International Atomic Energy Agency
Staff Members are international civil servants. As such, they may not seek
or accept instructions in regard to the performance of their duties from any
government or other authority external to the Agency. Staff members are
subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any
location either on appointment or during the term of appointment.
     Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Applicants are
