Bob,
I would advise her to place towels or sheets on any chairs she might sit in and
to wash her laundry separately from her husband's clothes for a week. I would
also tell her husband to buy a box of latex gloves in case he assists in any
clean ups and advise him to wash his hands. You might also give him a bottle of
Povidone detergent to wash up with. It contains cold Iodine and I think Ken
Miller at Hershey Medical Center once published a paper which demonstrated that
the iodine-detergent solution will go across the skin barrier and possibly give
a limited thyroid protective effect.
Ideally she should wear pads, but when they are disposed in the solid waste
stream, they set of the alarms at the local trash-to-energy plant and the state
DEP people don't appreciate that!

RADSAFERS,
I NEED SOME COMMENTS ON ALLOWING AN ELDERLY PATIENT TO GO HOME TO HER HOUSE
OCCUPIED ONLY BY HERSELF AND HER HUSBAND. SHE HAS ABOUT 30 mCi I 131
ADMINISTERED AS AN OUT PATIENT. SHE IS INCONTINIENT AND REFUSES TO WEAR
"PADS".
