Response to Priest re HPS Membership

I read your note about "give it a rest." I am sorry to say that I can not
agree.

I looked at the amount of message space used by radsafe since the first of
the year and found that these messages are less than 1% of the total.
Additionally, they are about subjects that are at the heart of our
profession (or that should be). The issues raised are about an RSO having
the ability to do his/her job, the review of human uses of radiation, the
freedom to report a non-compliance, issues related to recognition of
competence based on membership in professional organizations. In addition,
it seems that this is an issue of unique and special interest to most of
those on radsafe. Proof? I doubt that there would be almost 50 posting
about this subject if there was no interest.

Finally, as I have been told, radsafe is a means of communication that is
supposed to be a free expression and exchange of information and ideas.
Therefore, why would anyone ask the rest of the radsafe membership to stop
discussing an issue of interest to them, but not of interest to others?

In the future those not interested in this or any other thread can rapidly
delete them unread.

Although these are not the views of my employer, the university does
advocate freedom of expression and speech.
