FW: Alarming Ratemeters

I have been asked by a colleague to forward this message to radsafe. You
can respond back to me or to the Radsafe list if you think the info if of
interest to the whole group. I remember seeing a thread regarding alarming
rate dosimeters that don't rely on sound to "alarm" the individual using
them, but can't remember if we came up with anything.

Trisha, can you submit a request to Radsafe asking if anyone is
manufacturing an alarming ratemeter that has a device such as vibrator (as
in a pager) or flashing light indicator that would indicate that a preset
dose rate level had been exceeded. This would be relevant in regards to
radiographers operating and performing radiography in a location with a high
noise environment (refinery, power plant) were hearing protection is
required, and thus the audible alarm may not be heard.

Thanks, Stephen H. Pay
