Maybe someone from the HPS and/or DOE should make first contact with
60 Minutes. We seem to spend most of our time trying to respond to
allegations already made rather than presenting the science first and
making the anti's play catch up. As a whole the HPS needs to be more
proactive in its communications rather than reactive.
BTW, reporters are generally not liable for their stories because they
are protected under their First Amendment Rights of freedom of speech.
This is probably not true when they damage a person or group
intentionally such as in slander (i.e., Richard Jewel).
