Health Physics Training

Mike Longinov and others with an interest:

In response to the question about a health physics training course suitable for a
health physicist who is a few years from being certified, I recommend the
Baltimore-Washington Chapter's Certification Prep. Course. In recent years, it
has developed a considerable following as a correspondence course. If you are
looking for a way to get away from the office for a week, this does not do the job. If,
on the other hand, you are interested in learning health physics, the
Baltimore-Washington Chapter course has a lot to offer. Basically, it is intended as
preparation for certification but a good fraction of the students are not that
advanced, so the lessons start with the fundamentals. Still, the students are
learning from the authorities such as Charlie Meinhold on standards and Al Grella
on transportation. The course provides an excellent framework for learning
because it is spread over some 20 weeks. Also, because the instructors are
volunteers, the course is inexpensive, less than $500 (unless, of course, you chose
to commute from Onterio to Washington, DC every Thursday).
