     ANNOUNCEMENT-- SEPTEMBER NCCHPS DINNER MEETING     
     
     The NCCHPS invites you to our September dinner meeting, which will 
     feature a presentation by Douglas L. Allen, CHP, of United States 
     Enrichment Corp., on "Health Physics Aspects of AVLIS Uranium 
     Enrichment". 
     
     Date: Tuesday (yes, Tuesday)--  September 23, 1997
     
     Place: the Foster City Holiday Inn Select, 1221 Chess Drive. 
     
     Directions:  take the Foster City Boulevard exit from Highway 92.
     
     Schedule:
     6:00--  Cocktails (no host bar)
     7:00--  Dinner 
     7:45--  Presentation by Doug Allen
     
     Please indicate your meal choice when responding:
     
     A =  Champagne Chicken or
     B =  Rice and Vegetable Stuffed Chilies
     
     Each selection will include salad and dessert and coffee or tea.
     
     The cost of the meal is $29.00.

     the meeting [(510) 642-6167].
     
     PROGRAM PREVIEW--   Doug Allen, USEC's AVLIS Radiation Protection 
     Coordinator, will present an overview of the United States' chosen 
     uranium enrichment technology for the future.  Advantages and 
     disadvantages of the Atomic Vapor Laser Isotope Separation process as 
     compared to gaseous diffusion enrichment will be discussed.  Specific 
     radiological hazards will be described along with design guidance and 
     ALARA approach for the project.
     
     Doug joined the AVLIS Team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory 
     in December, 1995.  He is a certified health physicist with more than 
     two decades of experience in power reactor health physics and Army 
     nuclear weapons programs.
