Antique Counting Equipment Seeks Home

A friend of mine has some equipment he would like to find a good home
for. The following is the description: " This is Nuclear Chicago counting
equipment. I believe the scaler is a model 181. The lead "pig" is in 2
sections. The bottom has a slide-in planchet tray. The pig receives GM
tube holder and a 1 x 1 NaI crystal holder. The NaI crystal and GM tube
assembly are included. 2 GM tubes are in their original package -- never
opened. The distance from tube to sample is adjustable. Included with
the system is a model C101 calibrated set of absorbers both lead and Al.
18 Al, 6 Pb. The set is housed in a custom wooden chest.
One more item; a Nuclear Chicago "cutie pie" ion chamber. The
instrument is in excellent condition and probably would work if the
batteries that fit could be found.
As of 1 year ago the scaler was working. Everything is in excellent
physical condition. I just don't have the heart to junk this stuff. Maybe
some institution would be interested. The stuff is free but I would like to
be reimbursed for shipping costs. The system is circa 1955 and is
identical to those found on early nuclear subs SSN 571, 575, 578.
These things were "state of the art" when I started in health physics and
I'm sure some of the older radsafers will remember them too. Hope we
can find a good home for them -- there is a lot of health physics history
here."

If anyone is interested, please e-mail me at the address shown (don't
reply to Radsafe) and I'll put you in touch with the donor.
