There probably will not be much of a contamination problem using a recently manufactured Coleman mantle since the mantles currently produced by Coleman no longer contain thorium. Perhaps other mantle vendors still use thorium. Otherwise follow the instructions on the back of the package, and "Wash hands after use". Kevin J. Shenk
